About

2008 Virtual Food Drive

The Avenue Z Food Drive started in December of 2008. News footage of the long lines at food banks all over the country really got to me, and I sat down one night and pounded out a post on Life on Avenue Z, asking people to pledge to donate at least 10 pounds of canned goods to their local agency, then return to my site and leave a comment.

My original goal — which I thought sounded impossible to reach — was to spur the donations of one ton of food. Much to my surprise and delight, my real-life friends, Twitter buddies and blog readers ended up donating TWO TONS of food.

This year we’re bigger, more organized, more ambitious and more supported. I’ve recruited the amazing Josh Cunningham from Josh Can Help, and he’s providing help for the graphics and promotion. And I’m tapping to the dozens of people who enthusiastically supported last year’s drive.

With all these extra resources, I’m sure we can work together to double our impact. Our new goal is FOUR TONS of donations! Working together, I know we can make a difference.

It’s so easy to contribute. Simply Give Where You Live then register your donation here. That’s it!

Thanks so much for participating in the 2009 Virtual Food Drive. Don’t forget to spread the word!
